Well worth the early start

The bit of landscape and wildlife photography I have most problem with is the early mornings...

2 December 08

Sometimes you've just got to get your backside out of bed on a cold, dark winter's morning. And every single time I do it its worth it. So when the forecast for last Saturday was mist in the valleys and clear on the hills, it had to be done. I've after some misty valley type shots for a while now, so an evening poring over OS maps of the Peaks (I know, exciting...), trying to find a suitable location I knew well enough to get to in the dark was followed by a 5:30 alarm, and pulling up in the car at 7, with half an hour to get into place.

I didn't really know what I'd find as I arrived, but as I looked down into Burbage valley as I headed up to Higger Tor I knew it would be pretty special... Little did I know how good it would be though! Even though I got some cracking shots, I still don't feel I did justice to the sheer beauty of what lay before me as I crested the hill (having stopped for a quick chat with the only other photographer up there at the time. The first of 8 of us at one point!).The whole Hope valley shrouded in mist, hilltops peeking through, and the rosy glow of the sun starting to appear on the east. Truly amazing. I highly recommend it, whether you're a photographer or not!

Anyway, enough rambling. I hope you enjoy the images half as much as I enjoyed being up there making them... You can find them at the start of my Peak District gallery. There will be more to come... These are just the first 3 I processed.

Back from North Wales
As well as setting up this site I've been busy processing the first batch of images of North Wales.

Snowdonia in particular is pretty special to me, as its the place I first caught the photography bug just over 3 years ago, while visiting my girlfriend Fran.

I saw so many beautiful things I felt I had to start recording them, and bought a little 35mm point and click Olympus... And found myself hooked even before I got the first (disapointing!) film back.

So when we decided to go back (this time with half the car full of lenses and tripods...) I was rather excited... And while the weather generally was not too kind for photography, the odd gaps in the weather we did see revealed some of the most gorgeous scenery you'll see in the British isles... You can see the photos in my North Wales Landscapes Gallery.

Finally, I've got round to sorting out a real website...

Please feel free to look around! As well as looking at my pictures, you can now buy them! Prints, canvases and a weird and wonderful range of gifts are available, and you can also licence the images for personal or commercial use...
